Raids took place in Maranga red light area of Purnia.
Jagran correspondent, Purnia. On Thursday, the police conducted a thorough raid in the red light area of Harda Bazaar of Maranga police station area with the help of a social organization. During this, every house and suspicious places in the red light area were searched. The police detained a total of nine men and women, who have been brought to Maranga police station and intensive interrogation of them is going on.
This sudden action created an atmosphere of chaos in the entire Harda market and surrounding areas. Suspicious people of the area started running here and there, but the police completely surrounded them and detained them.
The raid was led by Sadar SDPO Forest Jyoti Shankar himself. This special team included Cyber DSP Chandan Kumar Thakur, Maranga police station incharge Kaushal Kumar, Sumit Kumar and many armed personnel. The team conducted intensive searches and cordoned off suspicious houses and hideouts in and around the red light area.
Police officials said that behind this successful action, the activism of NGO Naya Savera and the confidential inputs given by them have a major contribution. The organization was keeping an eye on the immoral activities going on in this area for a long time and the police had received information about some minors being involved in prostitution.
As soon as the police team raided the area, people involved in prostitution tried to run away, but they were caught and detained. This action created an atmosphere of fear and panic among those involved in illegal activities.
Maranga police station incharge Kaushal Kumar said that all the detained people are being interrogated. He said that further legal process of the case will be completed on the basis of information given by the NGO.
Police say that such intensive and secretive action will help in increasing control over illegal activities in the area and ensuring the safety of the people. Officials have appealed to the local people to immediately inform the police about such suspicious activities, so that those doing illegal work can be caught quickly and brought under the ambit of law.
