Electricity demand will reach 9,600 MW in the new financial year

Under the energy head of the state budget 2026-27 presented in the Assembly on Tuesday, it has been informed that the maximum demand for electricity in the state is estimated to reach 9600 MW in the new financial year. In the year 2025-26, the demand for electricity had increased to 8752 MW on 23 July 2025.

In continuation of the discussion about solar plants, solar plants are being installed on the roofs of non-residential buildings under the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme. Including the Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme and the existing scheme, till now a total of 57.20 MW solar power plants have been installed on 15,900 private buildings.
In the first phase of the scheme to install 1.1 kilowatt solar power plants with 100 percent subsidy on the rooftops of 10 lakh consumers of 58 lakh economically weaker (BPL) Kutir Jyoti category consumers, the process is yet to begin. Under the Chief Minister Rural Solar Light Scheme, 12 lakh solar street lights have been installed in all the panchayats.
Under the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandhan Yojana, the target is to provide electricity connections to 8.55 lakh agricultural pump sets by the month of September this year. Till now, electricity connections have been provided to 7.66 lakh farmers for Patwan work.
Smart prepaid meters have also been mentioned in the budget of the Energy Department. The updated number of electricity consumers in the state is more than 220 lakh.
