Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Metro will run for the first time from Central Station to Naubasta today i.e. on Wednesday. In the first phase, the test run of the metro will be started from the up line i.e. from Central to Naubasta. After about 20 days, there will be a test run of the metro from the down line i.e. from Naubasta to Central.
After completion of trials of both the tracks, this route will be started for passengers from the first week of April. With the commencement of the metro route from Central to Naubasta, it will become easier to travel between the northern, central and southern parts of the city.
It takes about 40 minutes to reach Kanpur Central from Naubasta by road. Whereas UPMRC claims that this journey by metro will be completed in only 13 minutes. Whereas the journey from IIT to Naubasta will be completed in 40 minutes.
In the final phase of Metro Corridor-1, a 5 kilometer portion of the route from Central Station to Naubasta is elevated and 3 kilometer portion is underground.
The track, third rail installation and signaling equipment of the up line will be tested by running the metro at a speed of five kilometers between the total seven stations falling on it.
Senior PRO of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) Panchanan Mishra said that the length of Corridor-1 from IIT-Kanpur to Naubasta is 23.78 km. At present, metro is operating at 14 stations in about 16 km route from IIT to Kanpur Central, while there are seven metro stations from Kanpur Central to Naubasta.
Out of total 21 metro stations, 7 metro stations are underground. At present, 25 thousand passengers travel by metro every day, after the start of operations on this route, there is a possibility of about 80 thousand to one lakh passengers traveling.
