New Delhi, PTI. There has been a rise in sowing of Rabi crop. On Monday, the government released data related to sowing. According to the data, this time the sowing of wheat has been more than last year.

According to government data, wheat sowing has increased in the ongoing Rabi (winter sown) season till January 9. So far, the area under wheat cultivation has increased by 2 percent to 334.17 lakh hectares. In the same period of the last Rabi season, the area under wheat was 328.04 lakh hectares. This means there has been an increase in crop sowing this time.

Sowing of wheat, a major Rabi crop, usually starts from October. Better monsoon rains and increase in the minimum support price (MSP) by the government have encouraged farmers to increase sowing area.

Agriculture Ministry released figures

In an official statement on Monday, the Union Agriculture Ministry released the progress of area under Rabi crops till January 9, 2026.

According to the data, the area under paddy cultivation increased from 19.49 lakh hectares to 21.71 lakh hectares. The area under sowing of pulses increased from 132.61 lakh hectares to 136.36 lakh hectares, while the area under cultivation of grains and coarse grains increased from 53.17 lakh hectares to 55.20 lakh hectares.

The area under oilseeds increased from 93.33 lakh hectares to 96.86 lakh hectares.

"The total area under Rabi crops has reached 644.29 lakh hectares, indicating steady progress in this season," the statement said.

The total area under all Rabi crops in the last Rabi season was 626.64 lakh hectares.
