State Bureau, Chandigarh. Continuous, strong and result oriented efforts are being made by the State to completely eliminate the social evil like child marriage. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur shared the child-centric and policy approach of the government.
He informed that the action of Punjab Government has successfully prevented 64 cases of child marriage during the current financial year 2025-26 by ensuring timely intervention to safeguard the safety and interests of children. He said these interventions reflect the Government's determination to take swift and decisive action to address the threats to children's rights and their future.
Appealing for active participation of common people in this social campaign, the Minister said that information about any incident of child marriage can be given without any hesitation by contacting the nearest Child Marriage Prohibition Officer or by calling Child Helpline 1098, so that timely action can be taken to protect the children.
Baljeet Kaur further informed that the details of all the officers appointed for prevention of child marriage in Punjab have been uploaded on the National Child Marriage Eradication Portal of Government of India, thereby ensuring transparency and easy access by the public. He said that with this people can reach the concerned authorities quickly and effectively.
He said that with the aim of ensuring holistic development of children and completely eliminating child marriage, 2,076 Child Marriage Prohibition Officers have been appointed at district and block levels across Punjab.
He said that these officers are actively fulfilling their responsibilities and are working with full devotion at the grassroots level to stop this social evil. Child Development Project Officers of all the districts and Principals of Government Senior Secondary Schools under the Social Security Department have been designated as Child Marriage Prohibition Officers. Baljeet Kaur said this wide network ensures vigilance at the local level and strengthens our strategy of early intervention.
