Awareness campaign on World Cancer Day in Jamui.
Communication partner, Jamui. On the occasion of World Cancer Day, an awareness campaign was organized near the NCD Clinic located in Sadar Hospital premises on Monday. During this, important information about symptoms, prevention, cure and treatment of cancer was given to the common people through street drama.
In the program, health workers told about the ill effects of consumption of alcohol, gutkha, tobacco and other intoxicants and gave the message to stay away from them. He said that drug consumption is the main cause of cancer.
Dr. Isha, doctor and District Technical Officer of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, present on the occasion, said that an awareness campaign will be run in the district till February 11. He said that people have been made aware by organizing camps in many blocks and the campaign will continue in the remaining blocks also.
What is cancer? Cancer is a serious disease in which body cells can grow abnormally and spread to other parts of the body.
Dr. Isha said, “Cancer is a serious disease, but successful treatment is possible if detected in the early stages.” He informed that free cancer screening facility is available in Sadar Hospital NCD Clinic. Additionally, HPV vaccine is also available to prevent cervical cancer, which is being given in schools especially to girls aged 9 to 14 years.
ACMO Dr. Arvind Kumar said that till now hundreds of people have been examined in the NCD Clinic, in which cancer was confirmed in 57 people and 804 suspected patients were identified. He appealed to the people of the district to get themselves tested on time to prevent serious diseases like cancer. On this occasion, hospital manager Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Shamim Akhtar, GNM students and other health workers were also present.
