Punjab government called Budget 2026 anti-farmer
Digital Desk, Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that the Union Budget has once again failed to live up to the expectations of Punjab. He said that in the budget there is no guarantee of MSP for farmers, no assurance of employment for the youth and no relief has been given to industries or the tax system. The Center has not taken any concrete steps to strengthen the economy of Punjab, which has once again done injustice to the state and its people.
CM Mann said that Punjabis are hardworking and passionate and despite repeated neglect by the Centre, the AAP government and the people of Punjab will unite and make Punjab economically strong on their own.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, reacting to the Union Budget, said that the Central Government has once again ignored the legitimate concerns of the farmers of Punjab and Haryana, thereby exposing its hollow claims of being farmer-friendly. Cheema said there has been no increase in agriculture infrastructure funds and no concrete support to strengthen market infrastructure, leaving agricultural states to fend for themselves.
He said that the farmers of Punjab feed the country, yet the Central Government is neglecting to invest in the systems that ensure food security. The Finance Minister also criticized the selective approach adopted to promote high-value crops. While there is mention of crops like coconut, cashew, sandalwood and dry fruits in the budget, there is nothing for the farmers of North India who depend on seasonal crops for their farming.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that this budget clearly shows the Centre's discrimination and its persistent indifference towards the farmers of grain producing states, especially Punjab. These farmers deserve respect, support and proper investment, not empty slogans.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has strongly condemned the Union Budget, saying that despite filling the country's grain reserves, the hands of Punjab's farmers have once again been left empty. He said that no clear roadmap was given for MSP other than wheat and paddy in the budget, which shows the Centre's lack of seriousness towards securing the income of farmers.
Khudian pointed out that no concrete package was given for crop diversification, which is vital for sustainable agriculture in Punjab, nor was any financial assistance given to farmers affected by frequent floods. He claimed that the Center has once again turned its back on the country's food providers by ignoring their problems and making empty promises. The minister said that farmers of Punjab deserve genuine support and fair policies, and not continued neglect by the central government.
BJP continued to treat Punjab like a step mother.
Minister Aman Arora strongly condemned the Union Budget presented in the Parliament and said that like every year, this time too it has disappointed the people of the country. He said that BJP had made big promises to come to power, but no meaningful steps were taken in the budget for farmers, youth, women or common citizens.
Arora specifically said that Punjab has once again been treated like a stepmother. Despite Punjab's historical contribution from independence to feeding the country and always being at the forefront in difficult times, no major project was arranged for the state.
He termed this attitude of the Center as extremely unfortunate and said that the continuous neglect of Punjab is unbearable. Rejecting the budget outright, Aman Arora appealed to the Prime Minister and the Central Government to stop discriminating against Punjab. He reminded that Punjab is an integral part of the country and deserves fair treatment, respect and all-out help.
Aam Aadmi Party's chief spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal strongly condemned the Union Budget, saying it shows open discrimination against Punjab. He said that the Center has once again betrayed the state by not giving anything to farmers, youth or development. In the budget, there is neither any legal guarantee on MSP, nor any assurance of employment for the youth, nor has any approval been given to any big project of Punjab.
Dhaliwal reminded that Punjab has made maximum sacrifices for the country, from the freedom struggle to protecting the country's borders today. Despite this, the Central Government is continuously denying Punjab its due by withholding funds and ignoring the needs of the state.
He said that Punjabis are hardworking and courageous and will stand on their own feet, but the Center will have to answer for its continuous neglect one day. Dhaliwal strongly criticized the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister for repeatedly doing injustice to Punjab and termed it as extremely painful and intolerable.
Condemning the Union Budget, Punjab Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the Center has once again ignored the important contribution of the farmers of Punjab. He said that no serious provision has been made in the budget for MSP, crop diversification or protecting farmers from natural disasters.
Bhullar said the BJP-ruled central government should be ashamed of itself for repeatedly rejecting the legitimate demands of Punjab farmers. He claimed that by denying protection and help to farmers, the Center has once again trampled on their rights and exposed its anti-farmer mentality.
Criticizing the Union Budget, Punjab Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said the state, which has filled the country's granaries, has not been given any direction or welfare assistance. He said that there is neither MSP in the budget, nor any plan for crop diversification, nor any scheme for farmers affected by natural disasters. Kataruchak claimed that this budget clearly shows the anti-farmer thinking of the BJP led central government and its continuous neglect of Punjab and its farmers.
Center silent on the rights of Punjab, no special help in the budget: Dr. Ravjot
Minister Dr. Ravjot said that whenever it comes to the rights of Punjab, the central government is always silent. He said that despite tall claims on health, education and agriculture, no special assistance has been given to Punjab in the Union Budget. Dr. Ravjot said that this approach is neither right nor fair, rather it is a clear case of willful neglect of Punjab and its people.
Senior AAP leader Neil Garg has strongly criticized the Union Budget and compared it to the Punjabi proverb "Patiya Pahad, Niklea Chuha". He said that despite big announcements and impressive figures, there is not a single announcement in the budget which will provide real relief to Punjab. Garg said that the farmers of Punjab, who suffered huge losses due to floods last year, were expecting special assistance and were hoping for legal guarantee on MSP, but nothing was given to them in the budget. He further said that the youth of Punjab have once again been disappointed, because the long standing promises of employment guarantee have become just slogans.
He pointed out that the industry was expecting special incentives to boost growth and create jobs in Punjab, but no such assistance was announced. At a time when the common man is struggling with rising inflation, no significant relief has been provided in the budget.
Neel Garg alleged that the budget clearly favors big corporate houses like Ambani and Adani, while farmers, laborers and common citizens have been ignored. He said that the Punjabis who have fed the country and made the greatest sacrifice for the country's security are feeling cheated today. Garg stressed that what people need is not empty announcements but real relief at the ground level. He said that the budget has completely failed to live up to the expectations of the people.
