Digital Desk, New Delhi. The storm of cold and fog continues in North India, but today i.e. on 31 January 2026, a big change is going to come in the weather of Delhi-NCR. India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Delhi. Due to the activation of Western Disturbance, a new phase of rain, snowfall and severe cold is starting in the states of North India.

Condition of North Indian states

Hilly States (Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand): There has been a warning of heavy snowfall and rain in the mountains. Due to this, the temperature in high altitude areas can go much below zero.

Plains States (Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan): There is a possibility of light rain with thunder and hailstorm at some places in these states from tonight. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: The effect of rain will be visible in the western parts of Uttar Pradesh, while the effect of dense fog and cold wave is expected to continue in Bihar.

Chille Kalan bids farewell to Kashmir valley covered in snow

Chilla Kalan, which covered many parts of Jammu and Kashmir with a blanket of snow for 40 days, bid farewell to the Kashmir Valley on Friday. With this, 20 days of Chille Khurd (small cold) has started, after which 10 days of Chille Bachha (baby cold) will come.

According to the Srinagar-based Meteorological Centre, there are chances of rain and snowfall in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir due to the activation of a new western disturbance between February 1 and 3. The weather remained clear in most parts on Friday, but it was cloudy at many places. It remains cool at night. There is a danger of avalanche in many mountainous parts of the valley.

The weather has remained dry in Uttarakhand for two days and bright sunshine is shining from the mountains to the plains. In most areas the maximum temperature has increased by about four degrees Celsius above normal. Due to active western disturbance, there may be rain and snowfall in the mountains.
