Jagran Bureau, New Delhi. Inaugurating a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on Monday on the completion of 150 years of the national anthem Vande Mataram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to put the Congress in the dock once again with the help of historical facts.

Apart from mentioning the sacred spirit of the national anthem in detail in his own words, he said, 'It is our responsibility to tell our new generation about the circumstances due to which Vande Mataram was betrayed.'

He alleged that under the pressure of appeasement politics, Congress tore Vande Mataram into pieces. Congress bowed down for the division of Vande Mataram, so one day Congress had to bow down for the partition of India. Unfortunately, the policies of Congress remain the same. Even today, everyone whose name is associated with Congress tries to create controversy on Vande Mataram.

He said, "Serious discussion is going on in Parliament, but Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is not present in the House. First Nehru and now Rahul Gandhi have insulted Vande Mataram.

The Prime Minister claimed during the discussion that the Muslim League's politics of opposition towards Vande Mataram was intensifying. Mohammad Ali Jinnah had raised the slogan against Vande Mataram on 15 October 1937 from Lucknow. Then the then Congress President Jawaharlal Nehru saw his throne shaking. Instead of giving a strong reply to the baseless statements of the Muslim League and condemning its statements, Nehru ji started investigating Vande Mataram itself.

The Prime Minister said that on October 20, just five days after Jinnah's protest, Nehru ji wrote a letter to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. In that letter, Nehru ji agreed with Jinnah's sentiments and wrote that the Anand Math background of Vande Mataram could irritate Muslims.

The Prime Minister read the statement of Pandit Nehru, 'I have read the background of the song Vande Mataram. I think this background will enrage Muslims. Citing historical facts, the Prime Minister said, after this a statement came from the Congress that a meeting of the Congress Working Committee will be held in Kolkata from October 26, in which the use of Vande Mataram will be reviewed. The whole country was shocked and surprised.

In protest against this proposal, patriots took out morning marches in every corner of the country and sang Vande Mataram, but unfortunately for the country, on 26 October, Congress compromised on Vande Mataram and tore Vande Mataram into pieces. He said that the mask behind that decision was that it was an act of social harmony, but history is witness that Congress surrendered before the Muslim League and did this under the pressure of the Muslim League. This was a way of Congress to pursue appeasement politics.

Prime Minister also reminded of emergency

Prime Minister Modi also reminded of the emergency during the discussion. Said that when Vande Mataram completed 50 years, the country was forced to live in slavery and when Vande Mataram completed 100 years, the country was caught in the chains of Emergency. Then the Constitution of India was strangled. People who lived and died for patriotism were locked behind bars. When Vande Mataram, which gave the energy of independence to the country, completed 100 years, unfortunately a dark period came to light in our history. He compared it to the current celebrations of 75 years of the Constitution and 150 years of Vande Mataram.

After objection on 'Bankim Da' called 'Bankim Babu'

Trinamool Congress expressed its objection to Prime Minister Modi calling Bankim Chandra Chatterjee as 'Bankim Da'. During the discussion, Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy asked the Prime Minister to use the word 'babu' while referring to Bankim Chandra. On this the Prime Minister said, "I will say Bankim Babu." Thank you, I respect your sentiments.'' He then jokingly asked, ''I can call you Dada, right? Or do you have any objection to this also?

PM welcomed with the slogan 'Now it's Bengal's turn'

As soon as Prime Minister Modi entered the House to start the discussion, members of the ruling BJP welcomed him with the slogan "Bihar's victory is ours, now it is Bengal's turn". Rising from their seats, they also raised slogans of Vande Mataram.

PM Modi had expressed concern over Khaleda Zia's health, now BNP's reaction has come to the fore.
