Jagran correspondent, Agra. Digital arrest: Sometimes the police have tightened the noose in many ways against cyber criminals who cheat people of lakhs in the name of investing in the share market. Last year, 2,717 SIMs of cyber criminals were blocked.
These SIM numbers were used by cyber criminals to cheat people. Along with this, more than 25 thousand Mule accounts of cyber criminals were also closed. Through which transactions worth crores were made. By closing these accounts, the amount worth crores was frozen, which will now be returned to the accounts of the victims.
Crores of rupees saved by closing 25 thousand Mule accounts in different states
SIM and Mule account are two important weapons of fraud of cyber criminals. Cyber Crime Cell is now taking effective action against these two weapons. In the year 2025, 185 cases were registered in the cyber police station. In which the total amount of fraud was Rs 18 crore. However, the police returned Rs 4.78 crore to the victims. Whereas an amount of Rs 5.16 crore was frozen in bank accounts. While taking action against 148 cyber criminals in the case, the police sent 79 to jail. At the same time, more than 2600 cases were registered in the cyber cell last year.
More than 2600 fraud cases reached Cyber Crime Cell last year
The SIM numbers used by cyber criminals to commit fraud were called and the Mule accounts in which money was deposited. Cyber Crime Cell had prepared a list of 2,719 SIMs and more than 25 thousand Mule accounts. Investigation found that most of the SIMs and accounts were taken by cyber criminals in fake names or on rent. The list of both was sent to the Home Ministry and the banks and they were closed.
Due to closure of SIMs and accounts by Cyber Crime Cell and running of awareness campaign, there has been a reduction in the incidents of cyber fraud with people in the year 2025 as compared to the year 2024. In the year 2024, more than 2,900 cases had reached the cyber cell. Whereas in the year 2025 only 2,600 cases were reported.
By investigating the complaints received on cyber crime portal and helpline number 1930, SIM numbers and Mule accounts of cyber criminals are being identified. There will be more closures.
