Jagran correspondent, Baghpat. The court has issued an order to confiscate the Thar and Scorpio of two members of the Baraut cyber criminals gang operating from Dubai. This kind of action by the court has happened for the first time in the district. It was believed that cyber criminals had purchased the vehicles by earning money illegally.
Cyber crime station in-charge Dixit Kumar Tyagi says that the seized Thar belongs to accused Harsh Goyal and Scorpio Tushar. The court has taken this action under section 107 of BNSS.
This is how the gang was exposed: Former soldier Vijay Kumar, resident of Gayatripuram Colony, Baghpat, was arrested digitally five months ago and filed a case of fraud of Rs 7 lakh. Arjun, resident of Ghaziabad, who came to light during the investigation, was arrested. When a thorough investigation was carried out, it was found that the youth of Baraut were also involved in this incident.
The police had arrested eight accused in the month of October. These included Arif and Asif residents of Patti Choudharan, Harsh Goyal, Ujjwal Goyal Lalit, residents of Arya Nagar Nehru Road Baraut, Aamir resident of Baoli Road near Thakurdwara, Tushar resident of Gandhi Road, Ram Colony, Vishu resident of village Hilwadi. During police interrogation, it was revealed that the gang leader Mohit Jain, resident of Baraut, used to run the gang from Dubai along with his associates.
Accused Mohit Jain had got the youth to open a bank account and asked for the details on WhatsApp. After this, he started cheating through digital arrest, giving tasks on Telegram on the pretext of making investments and through online gaming-betting apps. Made available new websites and calling data from Dubai. Complaints worth Rs 1,80,48,000 are registered against the accused. Cheated a Kolkata businessman of Rs 1.75 lakh. Similarly, people of states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi etc. have been cheated of lakhs of rupees.
Cyber criminals bought luxury cars, jewelery and iPhones to fulfill their hobbies. Ten iPhones, one Mahindra Thar, one Mahindra Scorpio, 19 ATM cards, three fake SIM cards, gold and silver rings, lockets and other items were recovered from the arrested accused.
