Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. Special staff of Western District Police has busted an online cricket betting syndicate. Police raided a flat in Tilak Nagar area and arrested three accused red handed.

This gang was placing illegal bets on the matches of the ongoing T-20 World Championship through digital portals.

Deputy Commissioner D Sharad Bhaskar said that during the T-20 World Championship, special staff was continuously monitoring the illegal betting. On February 19, a team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Rajesh Maurya, which included SI Sanjeet Rana and other policemen.

Based on accurate information, the team raided the second floor of a flat located in Tilak Nagar. Betting was actively going on there on the ongoing live match between Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. Police have recovered 12 mobile phones, 02 laptops, fiber routers and chargers from the spot. The accused were in touch with the bookies through WhatsApp numbers and special websites.

Investigation revealed that the accused had taken subscription of an illegal website, where they used to place bets on the basis of points, in which 1 point was kept equal to Rs 1.01. Points were credited to the bookmaker's ID as soon as the digital payment was received.

The flat was taken on rent for betting.

The main kingpin among the arrested accused is Rajkumar, who is a graduate from Delhi University and works in property dealing in Nihal Vihar. He had rented this flat for betting for the last few months.

The other two accused, Ashok Kumar Chaudhary and Sunny Kumar, residents of Ranchi, Jharkhand, were working with Rajkumar at a salary of Rs 25,000 per month.

According to the police, this network was completely technology based. The accused used to trap customers through online advertisements and used to transact money through various bank accounts. A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station and the police are now searching for other bank accounts and other people associated with the network.
