State Bureau, Jagran, Dehradun: The situation will soon become clear regarding the suspension of two senior Indian Administrative Service officers suspended over the Haridwar Municipal Corporation land issue. Since his suspension period is six months, as per rules, a review committee meeting will be held on January 2 under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. In which the suspension of these officers will be discussed.
Based on the decision of the committee, the Chief Minister will decide whether the period of suspension should be extended or not. According to the rules, the government can suspend officers from its own level only for six months, beyond this, the permission of the Center has to be obtained to continue the suspension. Serious allegations had come to light regarding the purchase of about 35 bighas of land in Sarai village by Haridwar Municipal Corporation. The officials were accused of giving undue benefit to the land owner by purchasing this land at rates much higher than the market price. When this incident came to light, after preliminary investigation, the government had suspended the then Haridwar District Magistrate Karmendra Singh and Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary.
Along with these, suspension action was also taken against a total of 12 officers and employees including one PCS officer. The investigation of both the IAS officers was handed over to Secretary Sachin Kurven, which he has handed over to the government. Now on the basis of this investigation report the review committee will consider further action. Additional Secretary Personnel Navneet Pandey said that this is a normal procedure in such cases.
