Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. In view of the challenges faced by lack of staff and resources in maintaining parks in Delhi, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will relaunch the Park Adoption Scheme. Under the Private Public Partnership (PPP) model, RWAs and voluntary organizations will be allowed to adopt parks. A proposal for this will be presented for approval in the upcoming standing committee meeting. Approval of the proposal will pave the way for the scheme.
In fact, the corporation owns more than 15,000 parks. The maintenance of the parks, spread over approximately 5,200 acres, requires a large number of gardeners, equipment for pruning trees, fertilizers and money for boundary walls. However, due to lack of necessary resources, the corporation has hired more than 3,000 workers with the help of a private company. Corporation officials believe that there are more benefits in involving RWAs and voluntary organizations in the maintenance of parks.
In view of this, the Corporation is planning to provide uniform financial assistance to interested RWAs all over Delhi. Every RWA will now get an assistance of ₹13,500 per acre every month for the maintenance and other works of the corporation's parks.
Earlier, the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation was providing ₹8,660 per square meter per month for parks, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation was providing ₹8,000 per acre per month and the erstwhile South Delhi Municipal Corporation was providing ₹13,500 per acre per month for parks. After the merger of the corporations, the corporation administration is making this financial assistance for maintenance and operation of the corporation parks uniform for all the RWAs across Delhi.
