Delhi Pollution: Traffic Jam Is Increasing Due To Toll Collection In Delhi, Supreme Court Had Advised MCD To Close Toll Booths.

Nihal Singh, New Delhi. Even after spending crores of rupees to eliminate the traffic jam caused by the capital Delhi MCD due to collection of toll from commercial vehicles, there is no solution. First toll collection using RFID for toll collection. Then the Corporation took measures like eliminating the disparity in Environmental Compensation Charges (ECC), but still the problem of traffic jam is increasing instead of decreasing. Due to this, people's problems are not only increasing but air pollution is also increasing.

Because of this, the Supreme Court even advised MCD to close this toll booth for some time. Jagdish Mamgani, who was the chairman of the construction committee of MCD, says that the problem of traffic jam can be solved only by abolishing toll collection. As long as toll collection continues, such vehicles will continue to be stopped and jammed in order to earn revenue and profit.

Dainik Jagran has raised this issue at various times. Recently, in its December 2 issue, Dainik Jagran had raised the problem of traffic jams even after eliminating the inequality in ECC. Due to which air pollution is also increasing. The most dangerous thing is that diesel vehicles also enter Delhi and during that time air pollution increases due to jam.

However, MCD is not saying anything at the moment on the order of the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Sources say that MCD will take a decision on this only after the written copy of the Supreme Court order related to toll comes. It is noteworthy that discussions have taken place at the level of Central Government, Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation to abolish toll. But, no final decision has been taken at present. The central government had asked MCD and Delhi government to consider abolishing the toll.

On this, MCD had demanded to compensate the toll, calling it a major part of its revenue. The corporation had also written a letter to the Delhi government in this regard recently. In which MCD had demanded to give Rs 900 crore annually in lieu of ending toll collection. It was also said that there would be an increase of 10 percent every year. Delhi government has not yet taken any decision on this. MCD has 156 toll collection points in Delhi. There are 13 points in which there is jam from Ghazipur, Kalindi Kunj to Rajokri and other toll points. Due to which people suffer in traffic jams for hours.
