State Bureau, New Delhi. Amid fluctuations in weather, Thursday was the coldest day of this season in Delhi. A significant drop was observed in the maximum temperature. There was also a lot of trouble due to fog. Daily life was affected due to the combined effect of cold and fog. The situation was such that the Meteorological Department had to issue a yellow alert for fog at 3 am and an orange alert around 5 am.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded on Thursday was 20.1 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 degrees Celsius less than normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at nine degrees Celsius, which was 0.9 degrees Celsius above normal. The maximum temperature was more than four degrees Celsius lower than Wednesday. The lowest maximum temperature in the capital was recorded at 17.8 degrees Celsius in the Ridge area, while the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 7.2 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar. The humidity level remained between 76 to 100 percent.

In the morning, there was light to dense fog in the capital and its surrounding areas. This reduced visibility. According to the Meteorological Department, visibility at IGI Airport was 100 meters, while in Safdarjung it was 150 meters. Gradually the situation improved. Even at 9 in the morning, people were seen going to work with headlights on. The people of the capital remained in the grip of fog and cold throughout the day.

Meteorological Department officials have said that with the onset of winter, there is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in the coming days. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the sky will be partly cloudy in Delhi on Friday, while light to dense fog is expected in most areas in the morning. Yellow alert has also been issued. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 22 and nine degrees Celsius respectively.
