About 14 feet deep drain built on the side of the main road leading from Pankha Road towards Palam.
Jagran correspondent, West Delhi. Recently, the tragic incident of death of a young man due to drowning along with his car due to lack of security barricading in Sector-150 of Noida, can be repeated on Palam-Dabri road in Delhi also. The approximately 14 feet deep drain built on the side of this main road from Pankha Road towards Palam is completely unsafe at many places. Just as lack of caution took the life of a software engineer in Noida, similarly here also the absence of security wall or barricading is inviting a major untoward incident. This drain, which carries the waterlogging of areas like Palam, Rajnagar, Mahavir Enclave and Dashrathpuri, is very old and deep. Its depth is so much that a small car can completely fit in it. Despite this, at many places from the road side, a large part of the drain is lying open without any security fence.
There are neither any warning boards nor adequate lighting at night, which makes the situation even more dangerous for drivers at night. This open space is so big that not only cars but also trucks can pass through it. The depth of the drain is 14 feet and its width is also almost the same. In which the bike riders are very small, even a car can drown in it.
Big schools, small malls and many showrooms have opened on this approximately two kilometer long route. These institutions have covered the drain immediately in front of them, but the long stretch between them is still unsafe. Being a main road, there is heavy pressure of vehicles here, due to which there is a danger of vehicles passing by the side falling into the drain.
need to wake up before disaster happens
Yuvraj Mehta's death in Noida has made it clear how costly the lack of barricading at construction sites or along drains can be. The present situation of Palam-Dabri road is also similar. Local residents demand that without waiting for any accident, the concerned department should immediately build safety railings or concrete walls on the entire route.
I feel scared after seeing the Noida incident. Here, walking on the road along the drain is like risking one's life, because there are no security arrangements. - Ramesh Kumar, local resident: This drain is so deep that it will be difficult to find the car in case of an accident. The bike is very small. The administration should immediately install strong barricades here. - Sumit Singh, passerby
