State Bureau, Kolkata. Pregnant Bengali woman Sunali Khatoon, who returned to India from Bangladesh in December last year, gave birth to a boy on Monday. Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee congratulated Khatoon and told that he would meet her at Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital in Birbhum on Tuesday. Khatoon was deported to Bangladesh on suspicion of being a citizen of the neighboring country.
Abhishek Banerjee wrote on his official Facebook account that this moment of happiness becomes even deeper considering the injustice done to him. Delhi Police and Central Government had forcibly sent him to Bangladesh by falsely declaring him to be Bangladeshi. Khatoon returned to India on December 6, 2025, six months after being deported to Bangladesh.
In June 2025, Khatoon, who was pregnant at the time, was forcibly deported to Bangladesh on suspicion of being a resident of the neighboring country. Following the Supreme Court order, he was sent back to the country along with his eight-year-old minor son.
After returning to the country, Khatoon was admitted to Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital for medical examination. Although Khatoon and her son returned home, four people are still stranded in Bangladesh. These include Khatoon's husband.
In June, police arrested six people, including Khatoon, from Delhi on suspicion of being Bangladeshi infiltrators. Later he was sent to Bangladesh. After this Bangladesh Police arrested him. A case was filed in the Supreme Court and Calcutta High Court to bring him back.
