Jagran correspondent, Dhanbad. Dhanbad News: Continuous poisonous gas leakage and land subsidence in Kenduadih Colliery area has also increased the danger to the National Highway NH-18 (formerly NH-32) connecting Dhanbad and Bokaro. After increasing incidents of gas leakage in the colliery area, the fear of subsidence of this important road has alerted the administration and central agencies. This road is the busiest route connecting both the districts, which is also known as Life Line Road.

Following reports of gas leakage and land subsidence at several places around Kenduadih, the Coal Ministry has requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to investigate the seriousness of the situation. The letter sent in this regard emphasizes the need for safe operation of the road and assessing future risks.

Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan confirmed that the Coal Ministry is taking the matter extremely seriously. He said the ministry has requested NHAI to conduct a detailed technical investigation to find out what impact gas leakage and landslides could have on the road. He said that the situation is being continuously monitored.

At the same time, senior officials of BCCL said that they have also been informed about the letter sent by the Coal Ministry and the expert team of NHAI can reach Dhanbad soon and inspect the affected areas.

Let us tell you that NH-18 passes from Bokaro to Dhanbad via Kendua and further goes to Odisha. This route has always been considered sensitive because it passes through the coal belt. Recent incidents of gas leakage and land subsidence have raised new concerns about the safety of this route.
