Jagran correspondent, Ambala. The girl died in a tragic road accident on Wednesday night near Kali Paltan bridge. The allegations are that an intoxicated policeman hit an e-rickshaw before a speeding Honda City car (HR 29AE 8282) and then crushed the girl who fell on the road.

24 year old Nikita Bajaj died in the accident. After the incident, there was a huge commotion between the relatives and the police in the Trauma Center. The relatives alleged that the police was trying to save its employee.

According to the information, Nikita Bajaj, resident of Kartar Nagar, along with her brother Harsh Bajaj had reached Ambala Cantonment from Delhi by train. Harsh had suffered a head injury some time ago and both of them boarded an e-rickshaw from Ambala Cantonment to the city at around 8.15 pm. Patel Nagar resident Keshav and his wife Poonam were also sitting in the e-rickshaw, while Milap Nagar resident Ravindra was driving the e-rickshaw.

The accused policeman was in uniform, the mob pulled him out of the car

E-rickshaw driver Ravindra told that as he moved towards the city about 100 meters ahead of Kali Paltan bridge, a speeding Honda City hit him hard from behind. The collision was so severe that the e-rickshaw went out of control and Nikita sitting in it jumped and fell on the road.

Ravindra somehow saved the rickshaw from overturning, but before anyone could understand anything, the car driver crushed Nikita who fell on the road. According to eyewitnesses, the car driver went ahead and stopped the car, then again moved towards the e-rickshaw, but applied brakes after seeing the crowd gathering.

The people gathered at the spot pulled out the car driver. It is alleged that he was drunk and wearing police uniform. Local people dialed 112 and informed the police station. Injured Nikita was immediately taken to the District Civil Hospital, where during treatment the doctors declared him dead at around 9 pm. After this, the ruckus continued in the Trauma Center till 11:10 pm.

There was a huge uproar in the trauma center

After the incident, the atmosphere in the trauma center of the hospital became tense. Nikita's relatives and acquaintances arrived in large numbers. He alleged that the medical examination of the accused policeman should be done in front of the media so that the truth can come out.

The family members said that if it had been a common citizen, immediate action would have been taken, but here the police is trying to save its own employee. Seeing the situation worsening, the police made the accused policeman sit inside the trauma center and closed the scissor iron gates. This further fueled the anger. The commotion continued till around 11:15 pm. After much persuasion, the matter was calmed down, but till the time of writing the news, the medical examination of the accused policeman had not been done and no case had been registered against anyone.

Did air hostess course

Jaspal Bajaj, father of the deceased, said that after much protest, he got information that the car driver was head constable Amit Kumar, who was posted in Lalkurti. He demanded that strict legal action should be taken against the accused and the matter should be investigated impartially.

Nikita had done an air hostess course and was working in MX Multinational Company based in Gurugram. According to the family, she was working in the company for the last four years. His brother Harsh is a front office supervisor at Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi and has been working there for about one and a half years.

Mother became unconscious, crying in a bad state

As soon as the news of the accident was received, there was mourning in the house. Mother Manju became unconscious, while uncle and aunt were also in bad condition due to crying. Brother Harsh was in shock and was repeatedly saying that everything was fine till some time ago, suddenly everything ended. On the other hand, the Trauma Center remained transformed into a police camp till late night.

Post mortem of Nikita's body will be conducted on Thursday. Police say that the matter is being investigated. However, now the city's eyes are on whether the law against a policeman will be enforced as strictly as it is against a common citizen.
