Dialogue associate, Samastipur. Pusa The Center for Advanced Studies on Climate Change, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa, Bihar, on Wednesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art Eddy-Covariance Tower in collaboration with Space Applications Center (SAC), ISRO.
The Eddy-Covariance Tower is a state-of-the-art facility that enables researchers to measure the exchange of carbon dioxide, water vapor and heat between the atmosphere and the land surface. This technology is important for understanding the effects of climate change and developing strategies to mitigate its impacts.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr PS Pandey said, the Eddy-Covariance Tower is an important milestone in our efforts to meet the challenges of climate change. The facility will help us better understand the complex interactions between the atmosphere, soil and vegetation and develop climate-resilient agricultural practices.
Director Research Dr. AK Singh highlighted the importance of Eddy-Covariance Tower in climate change research. This facility will enable us to measure the carbon sequestration potential of different agricultural systems and develop strategies to enhance carbon sinks. This is important to mitigate the effects of climate change and ensure the long-term sustainability of agriculture.
Data generated from this facility will be used to develop models and tools for climate-supported agriculture that will help farmers adapt to changing climate conditions. Navri is a testament to the commitment to advancing climate change research and developing innovative solutions for the agriculture sector.
