Encounter Between Police And Miscreants In Kapurthala, One Accused Was Injured After Firing In Jalandhar

The accused who fled after firing in Jalandhar were surrounded in Kapurthala.

Jagran correspondent, Jalandhar. In Jalandhar, 20-25 miscreants who fled in four cars after firing at two youths had an encounter with the police near village Sidhwan Donan in Kapurthala district on Friday evening. The miscreants suddenly started firing on the chasing police team. In retaliation, one miscreant was injured after being shot by the police, while the other accused fled from the spot taking advantage of the dense fog.

The injured criminal has been admitted to a private hospital in Jalandhar for treatment. He has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, resident of village Nawan Pind, Kartarpur. Police have recovered three cars, one Italian made foreign pistol, two live cartridges and two empty shells from the spot. Police station Sadar has registered a case on the statement of SHO of Kartarpur and started investigation.

Police alerted after information received from Jalandhar

Kartarpur police station in-charge Inspector Ramandeep Singh said that on Friday afternoon he was on patrol with his team from Kartarpur towards Kishangarh. Meanwhile, at around 1.15 am, information was received from Adampur police station in-charge Inspector Ravinderpal Singh that about 20 miscreants were roaming in his area in four cars WRV, I-20, Verna and Swift.

According to the information, these miscreants had fired at two youths at the petrol pump near Barista Coffee Shop in Kishangarh and after that they were fleeing towards Kartarpur. When the police tried to stop the vehicles, the accused fled at high speed.

Encounter on Delhi-Katra Expressway

The police chased the accused. All the vehicles passed through various villages and boarded the Delhi-Katra Expressway being built. Three vehicles stopped due to closure of the road ahead. Meanwhile, the miscreants got down from the cars and started firing at the police. The police retaliated in self-defense, in which a bullet hit Lakhwinder Singh's leg and he fell on the spot.

DSP Sub-Division Dr. Sheetal Singh said that this encounter took place near village Sidhwan Donan at around 7 pm on Friday evening. This case is different from the Jalandhar firing incident. Police are continuously conducting raids to arrest the absconding accused.
