Jagran correspondent, Patna. There will be an investment of Rs 50 thousand crore in Bihar in the energy sector. About Rs 48 thousand crore has been invested so far by the Energy Department, which will reach Rs 50 thousand crore in the coming one or two months. Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said these things. He had arrived as the chief guest at the program organized by BSGPL at Vidyut Bhawan on Wednesday.
In the presence of the Energy Minister, Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of power generated from the 185 MW solar power cum 282 MW-hour battery energy storage project set up at Kajra in Lakhisarai district. On this occasion, the Energy Minister also released the magazine The Power Year 2025 based on the major achievements of the year 2025.
Many senior officials including Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited Manoj Kumar Singh, Managing Director of BSPGCL and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited Mahendra Kumar, Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited Rahul Kumar were present in the program.
Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said that the role of solar energy is very important in combating global warming. Describing the Kajra Solar Project as historic for Bihar, he said that its commencement will ensure 24×7 uninterrupted power supply in the state. This project is not just limited to energy production but is a strong step towards a green and safe future.
Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said that with the signing of the PPA, the way for commercial operation of the project has been paved. He said that the peaceful consent of thousands of people in the public hearing for Pirpainti Thermal Power Plant, the biggest investment in Eastern India under the Pumped Storage Policy, was a historic achievement.
There will be 301 MW solar energy and 523 MW-hour battery storage capacity.
BSPGCL Managing Director Mahendra Kumar said that the agreement for Kajra Solar Project is not just a formality, but the fulfillment of the promise made to the people of Bihar. He said that in the first phase, work on 185 MW solar power and 282 MWh battery storage capacity is in the final stage, which will enable continuous power supply in Lakhisarai and surrounding districts.
The second phase will add 116 MW of solar power and 241 MW-hour of battery capacity at a cost of Rs 1,055 crore. Subsequently, by January 2027, the total capacity of the Kajra project will reach 301 MW of solar power and 523 MW-hour of battery storage, thereby maintaining grid stability even during peak demand.
