Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. The Excise Department has belatedly taken action against the increasing illegal liquor trade in the capital Bhubaneswar. The Excise Department in Bhubaneswar busted a huge network of illicit liquor, arrested four people and seized about 2,000 liters of country liquor. The illicit liquor was being transported in two different vehicles – a van and a new car.

In the first case, a van that appeared to be loaded with rice was examined and was found to be secretly carrying country liquor. Dry fish was kept inside the van to hide the smell of alcohol. In another case, a new car tied with decorative tape, which was smuggling excess liquor, was stopped by the excise team.

Officials said that this action is part of the ongoing campaign against illegal liquor smuggling in the city. The arrested accused are being interrogated and further investigation is underway to trace the supply network.

Excise officials have warned that raids will continue in Bhubaneswar to curb illegal liquor trade and ensure public safety.

Excise Superintendent Debashish Patel said that a huge quantity of illicit liquor was kept in a van along with vegetables, dry fish and other items. The raiding team was also surprised to see this. Additionally, illicit liquor was also found in a new car running behind the first vehicle. Altogether around 2,000 liters of country liquor has been seized.

A senior officer said that four people living in Aska, Buguda and Ganjapur areas of Ganjam district have been arrested in this case.
