Digital Desk, New Delhi. Tamil Nadu DGP tells Supreme Court that police have taken necessary action and cases have been registered against protesters who made caste and religion-based derogatory remarks against Madras High Court Justice G R Swaminathan.
The comments were made after Justice Swaminathan ordered the lighting of 'Karthikai Deepam' oil lamps at Tirupparankundram hill in Madurai.
Instructions have been issued to everyone
In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, DGP G Venkataraman also said that instructions have been issued to all Superintendents of Police and other officers of the districts to take immediate and effective action to ensure that no book containing graphical representations, statements, caricatures or material defaming the Court/Judge is published or circulated.
The Greater Chennai Police has taken necessary action in respect of the allegations made by the petitioner relating to dissemination of defamatory, libelous, abusive and scandalous posts on internet media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp and other digital platforms.''
