Flood of patients in NMCH emergency due to severe cold
Jagran correspondent, Patna City. Due to continuous severe cold, the number of serious patients in the emergency of Nalanda Medical College Hospital has started increasing rapidly. Most of the patients are suffering from heart disease, paralysis and shortness of breath. Diabetes and blood pressure of such patients have increased significantly.
Due to the increasing number of patients, doctors and health workers were seen very active on Tuesday. 42 new patients were admitted in other departments including emergency. There was a situation of chaos due to the presence of many patients and relatives in a small emergency area.
Beds vacant for patient admission
Health workers said that all the emergency beds are filled with patients. There is no vacant bed to admit even a single patient. Doctors coming on rounds are being requested to shift some patients to the ward so that the new patient can get a bed.
On Tuesday, about 16 hundred patients from various departments arrived in the OPD of NMCH. Of these, maximum 286 patients from the medicine department had arrived. Head of Department Dr. Prof. Ajay Kumar Sinha told that more patients of paralysis, shortness of breath and heart disease are coming to the emergency.
He told the patients and their relatives that in view of the cold, take diabetes and blood pressure medicines regularly as per the doctor's advice. Keep getting tested. Pay special attention to eating habits. Do not leave the house unnecessarily in extreme cold.
Patients were admitted on extra beds and trolleys.
Patients have been admitted on all the extra beds and trolleys installed in the emergency corridor and on the way. Some patients kept sitting on the ground waiting to get beds.
Health workers said that the beds vacated by shifting the patients to the ward are being given to the patients sitting on the floor. Patients are being given two extra blankets to protect them from cold. Blowers and heaters have been installed at various places.
More than fifty patients in thirty bed emergency
Thirty beds emergency is approved in the old building of NMCH with old arrangements. More than fifty patients have been admitted by arranging extra beds in the emergency rooms with limited space and on the roads. The rules are being openly ignored.
Hospital administration and doctors say that in view of the rush of patients, there is a need to build a new emergency with a capacity of at least two hundred beds as soon as possible. The Health Department is being continuously informed about this.
