Jagran correspondent, Bareilly. On Wednesday morning, a white blanket of fog remained in the district, due to which normal life has been affected. The dense fog that had been in place since early morning did not clear up even after daybreak, due to which visibility was also affected. People were seen resorting to bonfires and heaters to escape the bone-chilling cold and cold wave.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of extremely dense fog in the coming days. On Wednesday, the maximum mercury was recorded at 13.4 degrees and the minimum was 9.7 degrees Celsius. At the same time, till 4 pm the AQI of Civil Lines was 96 and that of Rajendra Nagar was 128. Fog has had the biggest impact on traffic.

Drivers were forced to crawl on major roads and national highways with fog lights on. Due to low visibility, the risk of road accidents has increased manifold, due to which people are avoiding unnecessary travel. At the same time, fog has also affected rail traffic.

Many long distance trains are running hours behind schedule, leaving passengers waiting in the bitter cold at stations. Due to cold and fog, the temperature of the city has also dropped, due to which melting has increased. People remained hiding in their homes to escape the cold and resorted to bonfires in public places.

Regional Meteorological Center in-charge Atul Kumar Singh said, an alert of dense fog has been issued for three days. During this period, there is a possibility of very dense fog in Bareilly. Cold winds are expected to continue blowing from the mountain side.
