Jagran correspondent, Babatpur. Flight operations were severely affected at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport on Thursday due to dense fog and very low visibility. Many flights, after reaching Varanasi airspace, were diverted to the nearest airport after circling in the air for hours due to low visibility.

Due to very low visibility from morning till afternoon, 10 aircraft had to be diverted to alternative airports. And 18 flights had to be cancelled. Apart from this, many flights reached Varanasi late by one to three hours from their scheduled time.

Due to this, hundreds of passengers had to face immense inconvenience. Due to low visibility, many planes kept circling in the air in Varanasi air space for a long time, while some planes had to land at other airports including Lucknow, Raipur, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Delhi.

It gradually became normal in the afternoon but operations could not continue. According to airport officials, there was partial improvement in weather conditions in the afternoon. After this, with the safe landing of Air India Express flight IX-184 from Sharjah at 2:10 pm, flight operations at the airport gradually became normal. Due to frequent cancellations, diversions and delays, passengers had to wait for hours. Connecting flights of many passengers were also affected. Due to this he had to face problems.
