Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. The team of Kotwali police station of Northern district has arrested two accused who stole vehicles from NCR including Delhi and sold them to scrap dealers of Sambhal in UP. Two stolen Mahindra pickup vans and three two-wheelers have been recovered from their possession. Apart from this, the auto rickshaw used in the crime has also been seized. The arrested accused have been identified as Monish and Shakib of Badaun, UP. With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved five cases of vehicle theft.
According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthiya, on December 6, complainant Ashok Kumar lodged a complaint at the Kotwali police station and said that he had parked his Mahindra pick-up van on Parade Ground Road, Red Fort and after about an hour, when he saw it, it was gone. Police registered a case and scanned the footage of several CCTV cameras installed nearby, which revealed that three people had come in an auto rickshaw and after committing the theft, one of them took the auto back and the other two fled with a Mahindra tempo.
After repeated efforts, the stolen pick-up van was found parked in Karawal Nagar, but the accused had fled. During investigation, it was revealed that the auto used in the crime was given on rent to Monish. Monish was arrested from Pul Prahladpur on 16 December. On his information, his associate Shakib was arrested from Bawana Industrial Area. During interrogation, it was revealed that the stolen vehicles were sold in the scrap market in Sambhal, UP.
