Digital Desk, New Delhi. Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are being reported in different cities of Madhya Pradesh. So far, two children have died in Manasa area of Neemuch district, while more than 18 infected people are admitted in the hospital. One case has also been confirmed in Neemuch city.

In Neemuch, the district administration and health department are on alert under the leadership of Collector Himanshu Chandra and door-to-door survey is being conducted in Manasa. Along with the Government Medical College of Neemuch, the health department teams of Ujjain and Bhopal are engaged in prevention of the disease.

Manasa BMO Dr. Umesh Baser said that till now GBS has been confirmed in six patients in the area, including two who died. The rest are suspects and are being treated. At the same time, a patient has died in a private hospital in Gwalior. A case has also come to light in Mandsaur. However, both cases are being considered suspicious as they have not been confirmed.

According to Indore neurologist Dr. Alok Mandalia, GBS is a rare but serious nerve disease. In this, the body's immune system starts attacking its own nerves. The antibodies formed during this time damage the healthy muscles, due to which the nerve signal gets disrupted and the muscles start becoming weak rapidly.

Flu, dengue, Covid, diarrhea and food poisoning are its main triggers. Its main symptoms include tingling and numbness in the legs, weakness in walking, reduced strength of hands, difficulty in speaking and swallowing, difficulty in breathing in severe cases, irregular heartbeat and fluctuations in blood pressure. It becomes serious when it attacks the throat and breathing muscles. In such a situation the patient is unable to swallow anything. 80 to 90 percent of patients recover completely.
