Jagran correspondent, Bhubaneswar. The proposed increase in salaries and allowances of MLAs (MLAs) in Odisha may be reconsidered during the ongoing budget session. If the amendment bill is reviewed and passed again, then discussion is going on about what will be the revised salary limit.

According to the information, in the last winter session, the Odisha MLAs Salary, Allowances and Pension (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was passed unanimously. However, the proposal to increase the salaries of MLAs by almost three times created discontent among the public across the state.

BJP delegation has demanded

After public protest, the BJP Legislature Party had requested the Chief Minister to reconsider this decision. Now this matter is likely to be raised again in the current budget session.

BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra said the decision to review the pay hike was taken after the BJD took a U-turn on the issue. He said that the BJD party took a U-turn on the issue and submitted a written letter stating that its members will not take the increased salary.

This put the government in an uncomfortable position, especially because the proposal had already been unanimously approved in the state assembly.

At the same time, Opposition Chief Whip Pramila Malik has supported the increase in the salaries of former MLAs. She said that the salaries of former MLAs should be increased, because many of them are facing financial difficulties. The government should take appropriate steps and respond positively to the written request given by Naveen Patnaik.
