Rajiv Bajpayee, Lucknow. The properties of those who left the country after partition and war with Pakistan are now becoming Kubera's treasure for the government. The Enemy Property Protection Department will auction one thousand such properties online in the first phase in Uttar Pradesh.
Out of these, the auction process of about four hundred properties has been completed, from which the government has received a revenue of Rs 200 crore.
There are plans to complete the auction of the remaining properties by the end of this year, which is expected to generate further income of Rs 800 crore. There are plans to auction three thousand more such properties in the future.
On the instructions of the Home Ministry, the government has so far declared about 13 thousand enemy properties in the country and taken them into its custody. About six and a half thousand properties have been identified so far in Uttar Pradesh.
There are still thousands of properties whose ownership rights are pending in various courts between the central government and the owners. Two years ago the Central Government had decided to auction enemy properties.
The auction included properties that were unusable for the department and most were encroached upon. The auction was started with a view to ensure that there is no dispute regarding the possession of these properties in future and also to generate revenue.
According to the UP office of the Enemy Property Department, anyone can participate in this e-auction process, although the occupants will be given priority.
If there is any occupier of the enemy properties whose value is estimated up to Rs 1 crore in rural areas and Rs 5 crore in urban areas, then he will first be given an offer to purchase. If the occupier is unable to purchase the property then the same will be determined through an auction process.
