Governor Gives Approval To Conduct Jharkhand Civic Elections, Voting In February

Notification for elections may be issued on January 27.

State Bureau, Ranchi. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has given his approval to the proposal of the State Election Commission to conduct municipal elections in the state.

Elections will be held in 48 municipal bodies in the state in the month of February itself. The civic elections will be held in one phase through ballot paper. The State Election Commission may issue notification for municipal elections on January 27 this month.

Elections will be held in one phase in all the bodies. Under this, elections can be held on 25-26 February, because intermediate examinations in schools are till 23 February.

However, the election schedules will be announced by the Commission. It is said that the Commission, through the Urban Development Department, had sent a proposal to fix the date for holding civic elections in the Cabinet meeting held on January 9, on which the Cabinet approved and sent it to the Governor for approval.

The Governor gave his approval on that. Let us tell you that Jharkhand High Court has asked to hold elections in the state by 31st March.

Nomination period will be of seven working days

If the election notification is issued by the Commission by January 27, then the nomination period will be for seven working days. Two days may be fixed for scrutiny of nomination papers and withdrawal of nominations. After this, election symbols will be allotted and candidates can get 14-15 days to campaign.

The Governor has also given his approval for the budget session of Jharkhand Assembly to be held from February 18. The budget session will continue till March 19. Recently the cabinet had approved it.
