Governor Gulab Chand Kataria Reached Tarn Taran With The Message Of Drug-free Punjab; Students Took Out Awareness Rally

Governor Gulab Chand Kataria reached Tarn Taran.

Jagran correspondent, Tarn Taran. As part of the statewide campaign being run to make Punjab drug free, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria reached Guru Nagri Tarn Taran on Tuesday. Strict security arrangements were made in the city regarding the arrival of the Governor. The police administration appeared to be on full alert and additional police forces were deployed on major roads of the city.

Governor Gulab Chand Kataria reached Shri Guru Harkishan Public School at around 12 noon, where he was given a grand welcome at the administrative level. On this occasion, a contingent of Punjab Police gave him a guard of honour. The Governor was honored on behalf of the school management and staff. Senior officials of the district administration were also present in the program.

A massive rally was organized by students of various schools of the city with the aim of spreading awareness against drug addiction. The Governor flagged off the rally. The rally reached Police Line Ground via Jandiala Road, Bohri Chowk, GT Road and Civil Hospital, where it concluded. During the rally, students raised slogans against drugs and gave a message to the society to stay away from this evil.

Punjabis engaged in protecting the borders of the country

District SSP Surendra Lamba, Deputy Commissioner S Rahul and other administrative officials honored Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in the program. People from different sections of the society, teachers, social organizations and representatives of political parties were also present on this occasion.

In his address, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said that it was his good fortune that he got the opportunity to join the drug-free campaign in Punjab, the land of brave men and women. He said that Punjab is the land which has protected the borders of the country and has given India invaluable wealth like food grains. It is the land of gurus and martyrs, who have made countless sacrifices for religion and country.

Around 31 thousand FIRs were registered

The Governor said that drug addiction has become a serious disease, which cannot be dealt with by the government or the police alone. He said that the government has launched a big campaign against drugs since March, under which about 31 thousand FIRs were registered and a large number of smugglers were arrested. He said that more than 1900 kg of narcotics, worth hundreds of crores of rupees, have been seized.

He made it clear that unless a mass movement is formed against drugs, complete success cannot be achieved in this fight. He appealed to every section of the society to cooperate in making Punjab free from drugs.
