Communication partner, Gopeshwar. The Winter Carnival got off to a colorful start with the four-day National Skiing Championship at Auli, the world famous snow sports venue. It was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj.
In his address, he said that this event will prove to be a milestone in giving Uttarakhand a strong identity on the global map. This will not only promote homestays and local enterprises but will also strengthen the regional economy.
17 teams from different states of the country are participating in the championship. This includes Army, ITBP and CRPF.
The Tourism Minister said that Auli has become a major winter destination of the country due to its natural slopes, oak-deodar forests and divine views of snow peaks like Nanda Devi and Kamet.
Auli's geographical structure and favorable climate make it an ideal venue for international level competitions. He said that now every year a winter carnival will be organized here.
It is also proposed to organize Surya Devbhoomi Challenge with the Army this year. Under this, a total trail of 91 km will be organized from Helang to Ukhimath via Urgam, Rudranath and Mandal.
Apart from this, Niti Extreme Ultra Run is proposed to be organized on 31st May in Niti Valley of Chamoli. In this, a 75 km ultra marathon will be organized from Rimkhim via Nitihokar to Malari and a 42 km ultra marathon will be organized from Malari via Niti back to Malari.
Maharaj also informed that it is proposed to organize Himalayan Car Rally along with the second edition of Devbhoomi Cultural Festival in Badrinath and Mana with the Army in June 2026.

Chauhan, Director Finance Romil Chaudhary, Association Secretary Rakesh Ranjan Bhilangwal, Deputy Director Amit Lohani, Sub-District Magistrate Joshimath Chandrashekhar Vashishtha, District Tourism Development Officer Arvind Gaur, Adventure Sports Officer Seema Nautiyal, Sports Expert Sheetal, BJP District President Gajpal Bartwal etc. were present.
Pandavaj's presentation won the hearts of the guests
Under the carnival, a grand presentation of Maa Nanda Devi Doli dance was given by Jyotirmath mythological Lata folk cultural group. Pandawaj Group also won the hearts of the guests from all over the country with their presentation. Local artists and school students also spread folk colours.
