Healthy Alternative To Junk Food Has Arrived, BAU Launches Veg Tiffin Box Noodles

Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, in another important initiative towards nutrition security, formally launched Millet based Veg Tiffin Box Noodles on Friday. This innovation has been developed by the Department of Food Science and Post Harvest Management Technology. The university administration described it as a healthy tiffin option for children, students and the working class.

The Department of Food Science and Post-Harvest Technology has developed this innovation.

Vice Chancellor Dr. D.R. participated in the program. The product was released under Singh's leadership. The occasion also introduced Nutri Millet Veggie Tiffin Box, which contains millet noodles packet, dehydrated vegetable mix, masala packet and cutlery making it a convenient and complete meal.

Rich in nutrition, health friendly

According to BAU scientists, 60 percent millet has been used in these noodles and they have been prepared from a balanced mixture of whole millet and wheat flour. It contains zero cholesterol, about 11 percent protein, 9 percent dietary fiber and a mixture of five types of colorful vegetables. 5 percent mushroom powder has been used for nutritional enhancement. The special thing is that this product has been prepared by baked method and no preservatives, artificial colors or flavors have been used in it.

Farmers and rural entrepreneurship will get a boost

Scientists said that by using local millets, this product will be helpful in increasing the income of local farmers. On the lines of BAU's Millet Corner, this initiative will encourage sustainable agriculture, nutritional security and rural entrepreneurship.

Said to be a healthy option for students and workers

During the program the sensory evaluation panel appreciated the product on the basis of taste, colour, texture and overall acceptability and recommended it to be taken up to the school level. The university administration indicated that in future, more millet based innovations will be launched in the market, so that the common people can get healthy alternatives to junk food.

Noodles rich in nutrients are useful in everyone's diet. It is useful for patients living in hospital, children studying in school or people of any age.
