Haseen Shah, Ghaziabad. An investigation has been conducted into the irregularities in laying the drinking water pipeline in Rajnagar District Center (RDC). The drinking water line was being laid bypassing the rules. At many places the pipeline was laid at a depth of only one foot. Whereas the pipeline should be laid at a depth of three feet.

Taking cognizance of the news of Dainik Jagran, the Municipal Corporation's water supply department has ordered to uproot the drinking water line and reinsert it. The contractor has started the work of uprooting the laid line.

The corporation is laying 82 lakh to 3800 meter drinking water lines.

RDC was developed by Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). At present RDC is the largest business center of the district. There are offices of national and multinational companies here. There are two malls, large number of restaurants and showrooms. Every day 15 to 20 thousand people come and go here. There is no drinking water line in this area. Here the corporation is laying 3800 meter drinking water line with Rs 82 lakh of 15th financial year.

Connections will be given to 600 buildings through this line. Carelessness was being taken in laying the line. Ignoring the rules, at some places the pipeline was laid at a depth of one to one and a half feet. After pressing the line by pouring soil, a cement concrete road was being built. Dainik Jagran prominently highlighted the irregularities in work in its January 13 issue.

Taking cognizance of the news, the GM of Water Works Department issued a notice to the contractor. A sub-engineer was sent to the spot for investigation. The investigation found irregularities in laying the pipeline. Now the contractor will have to uproot the installed drinking water line and reinsert it. The work of uprooting the line was started from Thursday.

Pipelines are laid at shallow depth in order to earn more profits

Laying a pipeline three feet deep costs more money. If digging is done by machine, money for fuel is saved. Digging manually takes more time. More workers have to be employed. Costs three times more money. In order to earn more profits, contractors lay pipelines at shallow depth. Later the common people have to face problems.

Disadvantages of laying drinking water line at low depth

Notice was given to lay the line at less depth. A junior engineer was sent to the spot and investigation was done. At places where the line has been laid at a shallow depth, the contractor will have to lay the line again.
