Team India, who came to bat first, had a very bad start. USA fast bowler Shadley Van Schalkwyk destroyed the Indian top and middle order. He took 4 wickets for just 25 runs in 4 overs.
The stalwarts like Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma and Shivam Dubey had returned to the pavilion and by the 13th over, India's score was 77/6. It seemed that Team India would lose its first match, but then captain Surya took command. He played a stormy innings of unbeaten 84 runs on 49 balls and took India to the score of 161 runs at the loss of 9 wickets.
The USA team, which came out to chase 162 runs, looked helpless in front of the Indian bowling. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj got a chance and he capitalized on it very well. Mohammed Siraj took 3 wickets (for 29 runs) and Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets (for 18 runs), Akshar Patel took 2 wickets (for 24 runs) in the match.
Siraj dismissed Andries Gaus and Saiteja Mukkamalla early on, while Arshdeep broke America's back by dismissing captain Monank Patel for a duck. The USA team could score only 132/9 runs in the stipulated 20 overs and India won the match by 29 runs.
India made world record
With this victory, India has registered its 9th consecutive win in the history of T20 World Cup, which is a world record. India has left behind the old record of Australia and South Africa (8-8 wins).
