Reuters, Dubai. The protests in Iran against inflation, falling currency and deteriorating economy have now turned violent. Several people were reported killed in clashes between police and protesters in several parts of the country on Thursday, making the situation more tense.

Several people were killed in clashes between police and reportedly armed protesters in the city of Loredagan in western Iran. Human rights organization Henga has claimed that many protesters were killed and many others were injured in the firing by security forces.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards said a member of the Basij paramilitary force was killed and 13 others were wounded in the western city of Qudasht.

Demonstrations spread across the country, arrests intensified and the protests were not limited to just one city. Demonstrations have taken place in several provinces, including Isfahan, Marvdasht, Kermanshah, Khuzestan and Hamedan. Protestors have been detained at many places and security forces have been deployed in large numbers in many cities.

It is being told that these demonstrations started against inflation, falling value of Riyal and rising cost of living, which have now taken the form of widespread dissatisfaction. Iran is currently going through a very delicate period.

There is huge pressure on the economy due to Western sanctions and the inflation rate remains more than 40 percent. In such a situation, the government has offered to communicate directly with traders and trade unions to handle the situation.

Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said the government would hold talks with representatives, although detailed outlines were not shared. In recent days, the government declared holiday in large parts of the country citing cold, due to which many markets and universities remained closed.
