Jammu and Kashmir won the first BCCI title
PTI Surat: Jammu and Kashmir Under-16 team won the Vijay Merchant Trophy Plate Group title by defeating Mizoram by an innings and 182 runs on the third day of the final played on Tuesday. This is the Union Territory's first BCCI title.
Jammu and Kashmir won the four-day match with a day to spare. Jammu and Kashmir took a lead of 300 runs in the first innings. The team scored 400 runs in 95.1 overs, in reply Mizoram, batting first, was limited to 100 runs.
Jammu and Kashmir captain Smaggy Khajuria scored 102 runs in 174 balls with the help of 15 fours and one six, while Atharva Sharma played an unbeaten inning of 92 runs in 137 balls, which included 17 fours and one six. After this, the bowlers of Jammu and Kashmir bowled out Mizoram for 118 runs in 42.4 overs in the second innings on the third day of the match. Sanil Singh (3/15), Jaskaran Singh (2/8) and Hammad Firdous (2/22) bowled brilliantly for Jammu and Kashmir.
Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 Elite Competition is being organized from January 4 to 28.
