Jharkhand Budget 2026-27: Budget Of Rs 1137 Crore On Irrigation Projects, Amanat Barrage Scheme Will Be Completed

Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore in his budget speech has announced a budget proposal of Rs 2714 crore for the Water Resources Department for the upcoming financial year 2026-27. He said that this proposal has been made keeping in mind the expansion of irrigation facilities and irrigation capacity.

The Finance Minister said that in the year 2025, Kharif irrigation has been made available in about 4 lakh 48 thousand hectares of land in the major and medium irrigation sector. Under this sector, a proposal for a scheme worth Rs 1137 crore 10 lakh has been prepared in the financial year 2026-27.

The aim is to construct new irrigation projects and complete old irrigation projects. A budget of Rs 121 crore is proposed for the rehabilitation, renovation, expansion and modernization of completed and incomplete major and medium irrigation projects.

The Finance Minister said that the construction work of Amanat Barrage Scheme on Amanat River in Kolhua village under Panki block of Palamu was started from the year 2003 till the year 2011. After this, the work of the scheme has been disrupted due to incomplete forest land utilization and land acquisition work.

The present government has decided to complete the scheme. Under this, with the aim of reducing land acquisition, the work under the scheme will be done through underground pipeline.

After obtaining the revised administrative approval of the scheme, the work of the scheme will be completed in the next three years. In this, irrigation facility will be provided in 12856 hectares of land in Panki, Patan, Tharsi and Manatu blocks of Palamu district.

So far in the current financial year, 203 check dams, three weirs and 41 medium irrigation schemes have been completed.

Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said that under the Minor Irrigation Sector, so far in the financial year 2025-26, by completing the rehabilitation work of 203 check dams, three weirs and 41 medium irrigation schemes, about 16 thousand 199 hectares of irrigation facility has been created and revived. In the financial year 2026-27, a budget of Rs 215 crore has been proposed for construction of new and ongoing minor irrigation projects etc.
