Mukesh Thakur, New Delhi. A Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his own family. The court of Dwarka-based Principal District and Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain has sentenced Sunil Arora, who committed the murder on December 22, to this punishment after finding him guilty of the murder of his mother Lata Arora and brother Rajendra Arora. Besides, a fine of Rs 50 thousand has also been imposed on the culprit.

This heinous murder took place in Bindapur police station area. According to the prosecution, accused Sunil Arora had killed his brother and mother by attacking them with a knife, scissors and a wooden thapi (washing stick). Police reached the spot and found Rajendra Arora dead on a chair, while his elderly mother was lying on the floor soaked in blood.

During the trial, Sunil Arora gave a statement in the court under Section 313 CrPC that he had carried out the attack in self-defence. He claimed that his younger brother Rajendra was beating his mother and this incident happened in an effort to save her. However, the judge completely rejected this argument.

The court clarified in its judgment that if the accused had attacked in self-defence, there should have been marks of struggle on his body, which were not found. DNA of deceased Rajendra was found on knife, scissors and thapi. Besides, blood of the deceased was also found on the clothes of the accused, for which he could not give any concrete reason. The neighbor also testified that the two brothers often quarreled and the mother often took the side of the younger son Rajendra, which angered Sunil.

Taking note of the post-mortem report and the seriousness of the wounds, the court said that the attack on the neck of deceased Rajendra was so severe that it would have been enough to take the person's life in any case. At the same time, the 75-year-old elderly mother was also hit several times on the head with a heavy object. This shows that the intention of the accused was not only to injure but also to kill.

The court did not consider the case in the category of rarest of rare, hence instead of awarding death sentence, it sentenced it to life imprisonment. The judge ordered that Sunil Arora will have to spend the rest of his life in jail.
