The last date for linking PAN and Aadhar card is December 31, 2025.

Technology Desk, New Delhi. The last date for linking PAN and Aadhar card is December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, the Income Tax Department will declare all those PAN cards which are not linked to Aadhaar card as inoperative.

According to Notification No. 26/2025 issued on April 3, 2025, people who were allotted PAN using Aadhaar enrollment ID before October 1, 2024, will have to complete the linking using their permanent Aadhaar card number by the end of 2025. According to an ET report, PAN cards that are not linked by the deadline will be marked inactive or inoperative and will not be able to be used for tax-related or major financial transactions.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes has warned that there will be financial consequences if the rules are not followed. This includes suspension of income tax refunds and implementation of higher tax deduction rate at source from January 1, 2026.

To complete the linking, taxpayers must first ensure that they have a valid PAN, an Aadhaar number and a registered mobile phone to receive the one-time password. In cases where PAN was issued before July 1, 2017 and has not been linked earlier, a fee of Rs 1,000 will be charged, the report said.
