This incident has once again raised questions on the administrative systems. According to the information, the licensing process of the boats which were being operated had not been completed yet. Despite this, boats were running on the ghat, which is being considered as negligence of the city council.
It is noteworthy that even before this, an incident of boat engine fire has come to light in the same area. Local people say that due to the release of water from Omkareshwar Dam Project from time to time, the water level of the river keeps increasing and decreasing, due to which there is always danger in the ghat area.
As soon as the information was received, police administration, revenue department and home guard personnel reached the spot. Police station in-charge AK Sindaya said that all the devotees are safe and the matter is being investigated. At the same time, Secretary of the Sailors Association, Arun Verma has demanded to make security arrangements more stringent to avoid such accidents in future.
