Jagran correspondent, Kanpur. Marriage Registration: If you have to take your wife or husband abroad then marriage registration is mandatory for visa. Only by registering the marriage in the registration office, the marriage is legally sealed. Due to this, awareness among people about marriage registration is increasing. Every month, 412 marriages are being legally approved in the city. In the year 2025, 4948 marriage registrations have taken place in all four zones of the registration office.
Registration is required by law as proof of marriage. There is a fee of Rs 10 for registering a marriage within a year. For registration after one year, a fee of Rs 50 per year has to be paid. This certificate is valid if the husband or wife is taken abroad. AIG Stamp Shyam Singh Visen says distribution of inherited property becomes easier if the marriage is registered. Marriage registration is helpful in making bank or insurance claims. Therefore, marriage registration must be done after marriage.
You can register in this way
For marriage registration one has to apply online at igrsup.gov.in. After this, one has to go there and get biometrics done on the date received from the registration office. Marriage card, failing which, affidavit, proof of residence like Aadhaar card, identity card or photocopy of bank pass book have to be attached with the application. The video recording of taking seven rounds will have to be taken in the pen drive. There should also be two other witnesses including the priest who conducts the marriage. Their identity cards will also be issued. It is necessary to have a certificate of verification of date of birth.
