Massive Fire In Dwaras Forest In Ranikhet, 20 Hectares Of Forest Area Burnt

Last night there was a possibility of lighting a fire on the roadside or burning the forest area of Khurafatis. Jagran

Jagran correspondent, Ranikhet. The recent rainfall and snowfall had provided relief to the forest areas from the fire to a great extent. But in the meantime, as the humidity decreases due to continuous sunlight, man-made forest fires have again started troubling the mountainous areas.

The Chheed-dominated forest of Dwars got caught in a massive fire last night. About 20 hectares of forest area was completely burnt by the flames. Forest wealth has been damaged on a large scale. At the same time, due to heat reaching the habitations, there is also a danger of wildlife moving towards the populated areas.

Despite millions of efforts and public awareness programs, incidents of forest fire are not stopping. So far, more than 65 incidents of fire and around 290 hectares of forest have been burnt in the hilly areas of Almora, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Nainital districts. The havoc caused by forest fires that started after mid-November was stopped by rain and snow in the second fortnight of January. But after the sun shines, the risk of fire starts increasing again as the pine trees and grasses dry up in the pine dominated forest areas.

Here, the forest of Dwaras adjacent to Almora Majkhali Highway blazed last night. Due to the wind, the flames went out of control and around 20 hectares of forest in a radius of four to five kilometers got burnt. It is suspected that the vehicles passing by at night lit the fire on the roadside and left it burning.

Due to sparks blown by the wind, dry pine needles and grass caught fire, due to which the forest got engulfed. Forest Officer Tapas Mishra said that if those caught causing damage to forest areas are caught, fines and legal action will be taken. He has appealed to the people to cooperate in saving forests from fire.
