Digital Desk, Srinagar. People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has expressed strong displeasure over the rejection of her PIL by the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Mehbooba said that the court's decision is "wrong" and politically motivated. Let us tell you that in this PIL, there was a demand to transfer the undertrial prisoners lodged in jails outside Jammu and Kashmir back to the Union Territory. Mehbooba Mufti said that the court said that the PIL was filed for political gains, but she completely rejected this claim. He said the PIL was based on genuine humanitarian concerns.
Many people are in jail outside the Union Territory
Mehbooba Mufti said that after 2019, many people from Jammu and Kashmir were jailed outside the Union Territory and their families had come to her for help. He said that he had written letters to the Director General of Police, the Government and the Home Ministry asking for details of the people in jail, but no response was received.
The number of under trial cases is worrying
Mehbooba Mufti said that many cases remain under trial for years without any legal action, which shows that the issue is not being taken seriously. Citing the Prime Minister's statement, he said that more than 3.5 lakh people are in jail and under trial across the country.
This matter should be taken seriously
Mehbooba Mufti said that the Chief Minister should take up this matter seriously with his MPs. Commenting on the incident of shawl seller in Kashmir, he said that it is strange that concern is being expressed about Bangladesh, while the injustice happening inside the country is being ignored.
