Survey for metro project will be done soon in Dhanbad.
Digital Desk, Dhanbad. Metro Preparation In Dhanbad: Preparations to start metro rail or modern urban transport system have intensified in Dhanbad and Jamshedpur, the major industrial and commercial cities of Jharkhand. In view of the increasing traffic pressure in these two cities and the movement of lakhs of people every day, the state government has started seriously working on options like Metro, Metrolite or elevated corridor. For this, a detailed survey is being conducted, based on the report of which further outline will be decided.
The state government has taken a big step towards starting metro rail service in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Work is going on rapidly on the plan to run metro on the Teen Route in Ranchi, while a survey has also been started for the Dhanbad-Jamshedpur (Tata) region regarding metro or modern urban transport system. This project will play an important role in strengthening the urban transport infrastructure of the state as well as providing relief from problems like traffic jams and pollution.
According to the proposed plan, a total of 51.3 km long metro network will be developed in Ranchi. This will include three major corridors. The first corridor will be about 16.1 kilometers long, the second is proposed to be 13.7 kilometers long and the third is proposed to be 21.5 kilometers long. These routes have been designed to connect the major residential, commercial and educational areas of the city. This will provide safe, fast and convenient transportation option to millions of passengers every day.
According to the government plan, the metro project will be implemented in a phased manner. In the first phase, priority will be given to the most crowded areas. The operation of Metro Rail will reduce the pressure of vehicles on the road, which will save fuel and reduce pollution. Along with this, new employment opportunities will also be created, because a large number of people will get work from construction to operation.
Dhanbad is a major center of coal belt, where a large number of people travel daily due to coal mines, industrial activities and educational institutions. Jamshedpur, besides being a big industrial city, is also undergoing residential and commercial expansion. The ever-increasing pressure on the road network in both the cities is becoming a major cause of traffic jams and pollution. In such a situation, a public transport system like metro is being considered as a need of the future. Under the government plan, the possible metro routes, number of stations, passenger load and cost in Dhanbad and Jamshedpur are being assessed. During the survey, it is also being seen whether heavy metro will be suitable for these cities or low cost metrolite and elevated rail system will be more practical. After the report comes, DPR will be prepared, on the basis of which a decision will be taken on implementing the project in a phased manner. With the introduction of metro or modern urban transport, the traffic in both the cities will not only be faster and safer, but it will also reduce the number of private vehicles on the road. This will help in fuel saving as well as pollution control. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of creating new employment opportunities at the local level during the construction and operation of the project. The state government believes that the start of metro service in big cities like Dhanbad and Jamshedpur will significantly improve the quality of urban life. Better connectivity will boost industrial activities and open new investment opportunities. In the coming time, once the survey and DPR are completed, the picture regarding the preparation for running metro in these two cities is expected to become more clear.
Work is underway on a plan to give a new direction to urban transport in Jharkhand. On the demand of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Ranchi's Comprehensive Mobility Revised Plan (CMP) has been prepared as per the instructions of the Central Government. Soon CMP of Dhanbad and Jamshedpur will be prepared. For this, a survey will be conducted regarding Metro.-Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Road Construction Department
