people going out in the cold
Jagran correspondent, Moradabad. This winter seems to be breaking ten year old records. While the minimum temperature of this season was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius three days ago, it dropped further to 4 degrees on Sunday. The special thing was that on Sunday, Moradabad was colder than Nainital. In the year 2016, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees, but the year 2026 has created a new record of cold, breaking the record of the last ten years.
The four degree temperature on Sunday further increased the melting and chill. On Sunday morning, due to the cold wind, it felt as if the body had frozen. The sun came out at 12 noon. But, even in sunlight, hands and legs were becoming numb.
According to meteorologists, the effect of cold is being felt more due to the cold air coming from the mountains, moisture in the atmosphere and strong wind blowing at night. The minimum temperature has been continuously falling for the last four days, while a slight increase in the maximum temperature is being recorded due to sunshine during the day.
Cold wave will last for three days, dense fog will also become a problem
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature will remain around four degrees for the next three days. During this period, there will be an outbreak of cold wave and despite the sunshine, the melting and chill will not subside. Cold will be felt more severe in the morning and evening, due to which the daily routine of common people will be affected. There is also a possibility of dense fog between January 14 and 17, which may affect road and rail traffic.
Support of bonfire and heater, silence spread on the streets
To escape the extreme cold, people are resorting to bonfires and room heaters. Bonfires are being lit by the Municipal Corporation at about 100 places in the city, which are being increased as per the need. Bonfire arrangements have been made in the district hospital and old roadways premises at night as well as from 5 to 8 in the morning.
In areas like Ganj Bazaar, Budh Bazaar, GMD Road, Kachari Road, Chaumukha Bridge, Naveen Nagar, Majhola, Buddhi Vihar and Ramganga Vihar, everyone from shopkeepers to rickshaw pullers were seen warming themselves near the bonfire. People's daily routine has also changed due to cold. Till eight in the morning there is very little traffic on the roads and only the working class is seen going out for work.
Possibility of improvement after Makar Sankranti
The hustle and bustle in the markets and streets increases only after ten in the morning. According to meteorologists, there is a possibility of some improvement in the weather after Makar Sankranti. At present the minimum temperature remains four degrees, but after Sankranti it is expected to reach 9 to 10 degrees.
By the end of January, the temperature can remain between 12 to 15 degrees, which will give people some relief from the harsh cold. At present, Moradabad is in the grip of severe cold and people are taking all possible measures to protect themselves from the cold.
