Digital Desk, Bhopal. In Chhola Mandir police station area, cyber thugs showed fear of the law and duped a laborer of Rs 1.5 lakh by keeping him in 'digital arrest' for three days. The thugs, posing as NIA officers, falsely accused the victim of being associated with a terrorist organization and pretended to keep him under constant surveillance through video calls. The money was transferred from the panicked laborer to different accounts. Police have registered a case against unknown accused and started investigation.
Threat of encounter, increased fear on video call
According to the police, 45-year-old Rajkumar Chhola works as a laborer in the area. A few days ago, a call came on his mobile from an unknown number. The caller, posing as an NIA officer, said that money has been sent from Rajkumar's bank account for terrorist activities. He was horrified upon hearing the allegation. After this, the thugs increased the pressure by showing a vehicle with 'Police' written on the video call and warned that if the call was disconnected or if the call was told to anyone, an encounter would be conducted.
Scam of 'case settlement', recovery in several installments
In an atmosphere of fear, the victim accepted every instruction. The thugs assured that after investigation he will be considered innocent, but till then digital surveillance is necessary. From Friday to Sunday morning, different people, posing as officers, kept interrogating continuously on calls and video calls. Meanwhile, in the name of 'case settlement', about Rs 1.5 lakh was transferred to different accounts in several installments.

Police act on complaint
When the family members became suspicious on Sunday, a complaint was lodged at the police station. Police are now tracking suspicious bank accounts and mobile numbers. Chhola Police has appealed to the citizens not to be afraid of threatening calls coming in the name of any agency, immediately inform the police or cyber cell and do not transfer money to anyone.
